Summary:

“Force users, they’re so arrogant.  They think this war is all about them.”

Rey and Kylo Ren – two halves of the same protagonist.  But if they’re both right, then who is wrong?  

What if the face of true evil wears an entirely different kind of mask?  What if it’s something with impossibly deep roots – a corruption so insidious, it could hide itself in plain sight?  What if it’s the very same military industrial complex needed to fight this war in the first place?

What if it’s simply… greed?

War is a Machine, internally combusting and turning itself over.  Is balancing the Force enough to stop it?

Is saving what we love even enough?

Doesn’t mean they’re not going to try…

Chapter 36: The Real Deal

“Mum?” Sky whispered.

Ben could not comprehend what he was seeing.

Rey?

There was absolutely no way his wife was stepping out of the turbo lift. No way she was walking slowly towards them, her saber in front of her, as the shocked crowd parted to let her through. There’s absolutely no way she’s reaching behind her back and grabbing the blaster he knows she keeps there, nor is she pointing it and shooting at the witch…

I’ve read the first three chapters of this, and I recommend this as a wonderful holiday Fick to get caught up in. The chapters are of a shorter length, which really helps my tired brain, and it’s very engaging and dialogue-driven. The Maine synopsis is on the first AO3 page. Rey and Ben are married and have two children. They are very much in love and the children are cute and precocious. However, Ray has a lingering sense of I have a really bad feeling about this!

The story is told from the present with flashbacks thrown in as to how Ray and Ben got together, which is an interesting style, but I like it. It gradually and veils more and more.

The other upside to this is that it is nearly complete, so you might want to download it. However, as an author myself, I would hope you would go back and leave some comments on the chapters. It could use some reblogging for a signal boost. Please give it a chance and if you like it, leave Kudos and a comment, even if it’s a short one. That really feeds the author when we do that.

So that is my next recommendation. I need to do a list! But those take me all day, so I think I am just going to reblog and recommend the stories I’m finding I like. This makes the cut! Subscribe and enjoy. And no, I don’t know this person.

support fic writers! 

This is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT you guys.

Fan artists can require fees for their commissions (and because it’s not illegal for them, they absolutely should).  Fan artists can supplement their income.

Fan authors cannot.  We have to go to work for eight hours, then come home and write for another eight hours for nothing other than YOU.

PLEASE use these methods to appreciate their efforts if you truly enjoy their work and want to see them continue! =D  You’re not bothering us with your comments – we love to talk!!!  The art we put out there is a touchstone – it’s the thing we have in common, and it’s the tie that binds us all.  

AND ALSO.  

With so many folks leaving Tumblr, don’t be the person who keeps forty tabs open in your browser.  (As an IT professional this makes me cringe when I see people doing this – please, for the health of your machine, don’t do this.)  

My point is, you may no longer be getting regular updates here from the authors that you love.  

Subscribe to their fics on AO3.  Bookmark them.  AO3 has this functionality.  Not only does it allow you to receive regular updates that you might no longer get from Tumblr, it also lets the author know that someone is out there and they enjoyed their art form enough that they took the time and energy to KEEP IT.

DOOOO THIS.  (And please, for the love of God while you’re at it, close your browser tabs, set up a regular virus scan and defrag schedule on your machine, set your OS updates to automatic, and let it reboot at least once a week, you guys.)

If you don’t have an account with AO3, what’s stopping you?  It does take some time for them to approve the account and email you your access, but it’s so worth it!!!!  Because what if YOU are the person who has that Next Best Idea?!?  Or any idea, really?  We love ideas – come join us!!!

Rey is (unhappily) married to Hux. Gut-wrenching, emotional, but with a hopefully HEA in sight. Have tissues on hand. (WIP, Rated E.)
