Clearly Guilty is an awesome filk band that performs at comic conventions and renaissance festivals around the midwest. They are good friends of mine and their music is absolutely hilarious. They commissioned me to create their logo (first picture). The die i designed to be any color they wanted, so I thought it’d be funny to demonstrate that to them by putting Vesper’s face in it. This is my first major piece of digital art so I’m really proud of how it turned out.
As for the perler bead fern…it was a surprise gift. There’s a running gag where they mention ferns in a lot of their songs even when it makes no sense. I believe it started as a joke in their “Supernatural” song “Salt and Burn” where they pretend to run out of words that rhyme with burn and decide to “sing about that fern”. So I gave them a fern to point at. It’s in perler beads so it has a nice, geeky, 8-bit look to it. The pot is decorated to various references to their songs, including another one that mentions ferns (and a personal favorite) “Life on the Deathstar”
I’m imperial soldier number 235 this is my daily log: today I blew up a planet, then I watered my fern, and then I went for a jog.
The big spray painted canvas was actually a set piece I made to be a backdrop for my short-lived Star Wars news segment I did for a small geek news website. It was inspired by their song “Sunset on Alderaan”, a hilarious song about a couple on a date during Alderaan’s last day of existence. Kinda dark humor.
The photo is of the group playing at Central Missouri Renaissance Festival with the fern on display as they sing. From left to right we have Vesper, Rowena, and Horatio. (Stage names). I believe they are singing “Salt and Burn” in this picture.
Anyway, these folks are awesome and their music is hilarious. I’m glad to know them.
“Force users, they’re so arrogant. They think this war is all about them.“
What if we’re headed into Episode IX believing Kylo Ren is the main antagonist when the true evil is something far more insidious? What if it’s simply… the military industrial complex and the greed that drives it – something with impossibly deep roots? Who is it that truly reaps the benefit from a conflict waged for generations?
War is a Machine, internally combusting and turning itself over. What if balancing the Force isn’t enough to stop it?
What if saving what we love isn’t even enough?
Doesn’t mean they’re not going to try…
Notes/Kudos: This fic has under 150 kudos on AO3. Probably because I’m not playing the Tumblr game right. But also probably because this kind of fic likely appeals to a much narrower audience. I do hope you give it a try, though =D
Aaaaabsolutely, it would be a pleasure and an honor! It’s called The Machine, and more than anything it explores the economy of war, why this war keeps pushing on and on (even after 30yrs of peace), and what I think it would really take to lead Ben Solo back to the light – I threw a hard truth bomb at him from a different angle, lol. It’s sort of an allegory on how war happens in our own galaxy, it’s an examination of the uglier parts of human nature.
And, some of the better parts, too =)
It’s a pretty slow burn, but I wanted to come at this Reylo equation realistically, true to their current situations as of the end of TLJ, and true to their characters.
Not really any warnings yet, pretty safe for general audiences, and definitely post-TLJ canon compliant =)
I’ve also got a couple of one-shots on my AO3 under Vespaer.
Old old pic I did before
the great computer crash. Basically I couldn’t buy the Hot Toy Kylo, so I drew
him. The Kylo in the background is my Hound from my Emperor Hux AU. Which now
we have TLJ spoilers I find quite funny how different they both are. One so hidden
and full of Machiavellian schemes. The other of loyalty and sacrifice.
